Eels are an endangered species

I was writing an explanation and this was what I had to do to be successful in my explanation writing.

Here is what my introduction had to have:

Eels Are An Endangered species

Sloppy, floppy, slimy, These words are how I, describe an eel. Eels are native to New Zealand. Eels go way back when the Maori came to New Zealand. But now….. They Are

An endangered species. Which means they could go extinct. My focus question is what is making a long fin eel threatened? That's, what i’m going to explain.

Commercial Fishing

Well, commercial fishing is when fishermen catch big fish for money (profit)

But what is endangering eels is that they are catching the older eels that are ready to spawn. But the thing is that if they catch a female eel  that is ready to spawn that means that they can’t spawn. Spawning means that when an eel or something is going to have their babies they spawn a bunch of them. Pretty cool aye? Plus, another thing is that  fishermen are catching  tons and tons of big eels that are ready to spawn  and they don’t care about the eels or they don’t know that they are actually a endangered species.  But anyway they just do it for the big cash.  

Spawning Problems

I’ve already explained what’s commercial fishing so here are some other things that are preventing them from spawning.  Another reason that is preventing eels from spawning is hydro dams. Well when they are going to spawn sometimes there can be a hydro dam in the way. So this means that they get sucked into the propeller of it then die. So what they need to do is help the eels to get around it. Right?  

How can we help?

Well what we can do is that if and eel get stuck or something we can catch the in a net and get them out of the dam. That is one thing we can do. Another thing we can do is  that if you’re just a normal person fishing for eels  and  you catch a big female one. What do you do? You would put it back into the water, because they are making their way downstream to spawn. Another thing is, keep our creeks clean! because some creeks have polluted water and that’s not good for the eels. What you can do is keep the water clean.

Well, I have explained the things that I know that are preventing eels from spawning such as commercial fishing and hydro dams.  I hope you take my advice and do the right thing if you catch an eel that is ready to spawn.

Pacific Paradise or NOT?

This is my book review. I am  learning to summarize in my own words and form an opinion.                        Pacific Paradise By Mary Campbell  

What I have read is Pacific Paradise. This book is mostly about eels in New Zealand. the life cycle about eels and how they lay their eggs.   

First of all, This is the life cycle of an eel, im sure you want to know this. First they start off as eggs, as they grow a bit older they turn into larvae. then they would turn into glass eel. After that they would grow older and turn into elver. after all of that they finally turn into adults and reach full maturity. Here is a picture to demonstrate the life cycle of eels.

For the last part of this is them as adults about to lay their eggs.

So, how do they lay their eggs? Well it takes awhile, but they have to make their way upstream to make it to the ocean. Well when they finally make it it is time to lay their eggs. Once they have laid all their eggs they are so so exhausted, they die. Then off their eggs go to make it back to the creek to start their new lives.

I found this article very interesting and helpful. I enjoyed learning about the life cycle of an eel and knowing how they lay their eggs.

Fun With Mum

This is my recount. I don't what I was learning. My next step is to Write a variety of sentences types (some short, some starting with ‘talking’, some starting with an adverb.

   On a Marvelous Friday afternoon Me and my mum and Kim went to Westfield mall in Riccarton.

   Firstly what we did what was obvious,  we went into the car and took off. My mum yelled out to me, “come on Ricci it's time to Go”  and I replied nicely “ok im coming, be there in a Sec” So the went into the car and put our seatbelts on and took of to Westfield Mall in Riccarton.

                     

Twenty  or so minutes later we were there, we went all the way to the top of the parking lot to find a carpark. I took ages to look for a empty carpark. I was waiting for years to find a carpark. But then…. WE FINALLY FOUND A PARKING SPOT! I shouted out loudly  “yay we found a parking spot.  By the time we found an empty car park I was like an old man.

  So then we hopped out of the car like rabbits and made our way to Kmart and Timezone.

After that we finally made it to kmart to buy some toys for me.  We were walking in Kmart then finally found the toys aisle.   The cool toys that I found was star wars spaceships The spaceships that I got was Tie  fighter, Stormtrooper transport and the ghost from the program Star Wars Rebels. The other toy I got was a big fighter jet including a guy to fly the fighter jet.

   My mum asked me “is that all you want”? I replied “Yep”so then me and my mum went to go to the counter and paid for my toys then skipped out of Kmart to go to Timezone.  

     After all off that We finally went to the final place of the day which was Timezone to play some games. Then I saw ghostbusters pinball but it was the plain version. That was the only game I played. So I jammed that game for a an hour or so until the money on the timezone was out. An hour later the card was out of money witch meant we had to go return it to the counter and then go back home. I said “oh man there is no more money left on it. So then it was a long walk back to the parking lot at the 20 minute drive back home

   My thoughts of that day was the I had a marvelous time shopping at Kmart and playing

I Believe That the Flash is the best superhero. Do you agree? Why I believe the Flash is the best superhero because he can travel to places super fast, he can also take down bad people plus he can dodge things fast also he is tremendously fast.

The first main reason why I think the Flash is the best super is that he can go to anywhere in a blink of an eye.  How can he do that? Ah dah he’s the flash and the flash is super fast he can even go faster  than  fastest car which is the Bugatti Chiron which goes 288 mph/ 464 km per hour. Also he can get out of danger fast. He can even see bullets going past him. How cool would that be to see bullets as they're going past you?

My second reason why I think the Flash is the best superhero is because he can help people super super  fast. For example say if I were drowning in Australia would he save? Of course he would save me.  Added to this,  he can put out fires when he goes really fast.  Would you want to get saved from the Flash? He can come to you in an instant and get you out of trouble if you are in danger like if you were getting beat up or getting robbed or something else. Also would it be cool that  the Flash fastest superhero? And the flash can go as fast as lightning can strike you. How cool is that?

In Summary I think that the Flash is the best superhero because he can go as fast as lightning and he can go to other places in an instant. As I’ve said at the beginning I believe that he is the best superhero.

The book that i’ve been reading is Bok Choy. This is set in Otago in the South Island in NZ 1865 on the gold mines. This is a nonfiction story but based on actual events is about Jacob that is young boy and also there is chinese man who is Ah Sum, he is a poor chinese man that is working in mine called New Gold Mountain.

After Jacob gets rescued his mother comes to get him. Then there is Mrs Bishop and her son Williams. Mrs Bishop and her son Williams is racist to that a chinese man Ah Sum.

My favourite part in this story is when Jacob gets rescued by Ah Sum. Something that surprised me was when Mrs Bishop and her son was being racist to that Chinese man.

Smoking Is Not Cool

Smoking Is not Cool

This is my first persuasive writing.              

I Believe that people should not smoke. Do you agree?

  The first reason why people should not try smoking is that smoking is addictive and it is not good if you get addictive. This means you will always want to do a it is not good. Next thing you now is you get addictive. Plus you could get addictive real quick. You could possibly die young. For example  if you are smoking at a young age you are most likely to die quickly. For a matter of fact that 5000 people die in New zealand because of smoking.

The next reason why I think you should stop smoking is if you  have a family you will have to think about your family to. Because if you smoke around them it is possible they could inhale your smoke.

That is not good because your heart and lungs could stop working. Do you not want that to happen?

Second reason why I believe people should stop smoking is because it could cause you a stroke or a heart attack and it is possible to get cancer. Do you want that to happen to you?

My next steps are:

• Carefully read my sentences to check they make sense (mistakes in word endings)
• Make sure I use good lead sentences that are in order
• Put more information into my introduction
• Leart to use emotive words
• Learn to summarise my argument at the end.

Tautoros 110th Birthday

I was away form school and missed out the learning about figuartive language but heres the recount I wrote
                           
   Tautoro’s 110th Birthday

On a cold frosty Friday Morning it was Tautoro’s 110th birthday.

First of all the big day started with a powhiri for the old boys and old girls.

Our waiata were Te matua, Te po, Tautoro Awarua, and The Haka.

I was going as hard as my heart could go.

Then there was the big performance. We sang old songs like Karanga tia ra, The old Haka, E te hokowhitu, and more old songs. It was such a massive performance to do. Then at the end song the old boys and old girls joined in with us.

A Half hour later, The hangi finally came out. There were lots of kai and also toffee apples to buy for 2 dollars and there was also Cake. When the warm delicious hangi went to my mouth and the meat, the sweet potato, the kumara, and the pumpkin Then I thought this is so yum and delicious.

A few minutes later the cake was ready and Whaea Gaylene was handed out pieces of cake to people. When I got my piece of cake it looked tasty and sweet. When that piece of cake entered my mouth It was just mouthwatering, tasty and delicious. It was cake heaven.

After all of that We played the old games like hopscotch, spinning tops, hula hoops, quits,  skipping, marbles,and knucklebones. There were groups I was with Mis Paraha. The first game we played was knucklebones. How you played this game is you have to get rocks and put them on the top of your hand and then throw them up in the air then you have to at least try to catch some rocks. Playing knucklebones was frustrating as if you're stuck in a big problem. After a few seconds I instantly heard a bell when you hear that your group goes to the next game.

The next, game we were going to marbles. Then Mis Paraha explained to us how you play. So each person has one big marble each, what you have to do is hit the marbles with your mable and whatever marble goes out of the circle is yours. And the person with the most marbles wins. At the end Konrad had the most marbles. Then we heard the bell again.

I was like oh man I didn’t have enough turns to get enough marbles.

After all of the old games it was time to end the day with a assembly. It was our assembly. We showed items like what we have learnt and other kind of stuff.

So then that big day came to an end but my favorite part of that day was eating all the delicious tasty food.

I have been Reading Goosebumps, it is written by R.L Stine.

The type of book is a choose your own adventure book.  This book is mostly about a guy Reggie owns this shop and you and Julie make a bet with him. You have to get one item from each floor you go to. These are the items you need to get from each floor:

Floor 1: a man's leg

Floor 2: poisonous perfume

Floor 3: Heart attack backpack

Floor 4: Baby's booties

Floor 5: Silver arrow

Floor 6: Volcano Steam

Floor 7: The Final showdown

So these are the adventures you can pick. For example if you want to go to floor 3 you have to turn to page 33. Or if you just want to skip ahead and go to floor 7 for the final showdown you turn to page 77. If you had won the bet you can pick a prize from the store.  If you lost you could not get  prize from the store.

What I liked about this book is how interesting it is and because it's adventure. I also like all the funny parts in it. It was a very cool book. What have you been reading lately?

Today In free reading I read about this talented dog.  It was a beagle dog. Its name was Purin. He broke the world record for the fastest dog on a ball. He could move 32 feet in 11 seconds.  It was famous for catching the most soccer balls.

My Big Trip To Whangarei

    My Big Trip To Whangarei

On a good sunny, Frosty morning Me, My dad, My step Mum and My little sister went to Whangarei for the day and what I had on my mind as getting some converse shoes.

First of all what we did was put on some warm clothes so when we go outside. We all Jumped in the car and we started driving to Whangarei.

Next we were going to get me converse shoes. First we found this shoe shop we had a look around. Then we found some. But guess what?  They didn’t have it in my size. My jaw dropped like it was broken, I was shredded. I said to my step mum

“Mum we must look at another shop my step mum replied “Ok ok calm down we will go to another shop and find some.  So we Rushed to the car and started driving.

Next we spent hours and hours trying to find some shoes. Finally we found the shop.  The name of the shop was called Inferno.

So we found the type of shoe I wanted. It was converse leather.

So we said to the shop owner “do you have size 5 shoes” He replied “Yes we do have size 5 shoes” I shouted “yes yes” I was so so happy.

So I tried them on I said quietly “it fits perfectly” So my step mum said “You like them I replied back “Yes   I do. So my Step mum took money out of her wallet and paid the shop owner.  Then we got back to the car.  I was so relieved about it. After A while or so we left Whangarei.

Finally we got back home. It was  9pm at night. So I got out of the car and went inside. I was so tired after today. My Dad got inside. I said to dad “Dad I’m going to go to bed now and dad replied “Ok boy goodnight I replied back to dad “Goodnight.

My Recent Reading

The Book that I've read is called Stuffed By Paul Jennings.

The book is mostly about Martin saving the cane toads and he keeps two toads and names them Fruitcake and Pancake.  

Frisbee is the person who lives next to Martin and he kills cane toads and Martin tries to stop him.

The thing that surprised me in this book was that Martin actually liked cane toads but no one else liked cane toads.

The part that I liked in this book was that martin saving the cane toads and why I liked this part because it was interesting for me.

The interesting thing in this book for me was when Fruitcake and Pancake were playing tennis to scare Frisbee.

What I learned from this book was that it has some interesting stories for me to read.  I would recommend you read this book because it has so much interesting stories in it and that.

Guess what happened to me about a year ago. I don’t feel like telling you but I will tell you anyway and It's was a bit yuck

It was  just this day I was sick  and my dad forced me to go to town. I shouted to dad “Dad I don’t want to go But I had to anyway. Do you know what it’s like to be forced to go somewhere when you're sick.   So we got in the car and started driving,  

As we were driving I started to feel more and more worse, So I said to dad “Dad I’m feeling worse Dad  replied back “you will be alright.

When we got to town My dad said “Do you want any subway.

I  ignored him . But he still got me subway anyway.

When my dad came back with subway and a drink of lemonade I didn't even want to eat it.

After all that we were coming back from Kaikohe then I took one big bite of my subway. You wonder what’s gonna happen next? This is gonna sound a bit gross. So what happened was that point we were driving and then and then I…….  puked and it splattered all over me and all over the seat. all of a sudden my dad pulled over the car. My dad shouted, holy moly.  It was all yucky and gooey everywhere and on my seat and my clothes and it was all splattered all over me.

I felt like as sick as I ever been in my whole life.

That day I felt like that was one of the worse day I ever had and I will never forget that day in my life.

The Book That i've been reading.

This Is What Power Alternatives is mostly about and the energy that we use and other sort of energys that is used.

Like Solar energy, Nuclear energy, hydraulic energy, Non-Renewable energy Renewable energy, Tidal Energy, how the energy is balanced, the energy sources, how much will it cost when the gas and fuels run out,

     Non-Renewable means that it can run eventually and it is not good.

Renewable means that it can keep on going and can recharge when the   sun  is out.

My favorite part in the story was learning about the Pros and Cons, Non-Renewable energy and Renewable energy.

The thing that surprised me  was that the energy sources that are used and the Pros and Cons.

Here are some of the Non-Renewable sources I know so far. Fossil fuels, and coal.

These are some of the renewable sources I know so far.

Solar energy,hydraulic energy,Tidal energy.

There are Pros and Cons about these kind of things.

Pros means it’s good things and Cons means that it’s bad.
