A visitor from search and rescue

 Shake Out

Today a Shake Out person came to our school and had
a dog. Her name was Annmarie and the dog’s name was Mazuc.

First she told us about hazards and the things that can fall down during an earthquake. She said when you are in an earthquake you get better balance when you are on your knees down low.
Next, we learned to Drop Cover Hold so we can protect ourselves when a earthquake happens.
Then she told us that when Mazuc barks that means he has found a person or other things. There are three reasons why he barks.
These are the three reasons why he barks
-Smell
-Slight movement
-and sound.
I said, “ Wow!” that is awesome to have.
It was a good  learning the things to protect me in a earthquake, learning to have better balance on my knees       and learning to Drop Cover Hold when in an earthquake.

My Inquiry: Blogging 101

Topic:  What I want to learn about.

What worked?
I didn't know much about blogging but I knew that we would need to learn about it more because we would be blogging lots in school.  That's why I chose this as my inquiry project.  Now, I feel like I know more about why we blog and how we blog.  I also know how to leave a digital footprint so others can visit my blog site.

What I found difficult?
I found it really hard to summarise all the information into notes.  It took me a long time.  I especially found summarising slide 5 difficult.  I think it was difficult because it was hard to remember sentence starters that we use to show the 5 key points.  I found it hard to remember the difference between being thoughtful and helpful in a post.

Where to next?
I'd really like to create my own game.  I learnt a lot from watching Jordan and Anthony making a game.  I'd like to give that a go.

Mr.Wonka and his sailboat

WALT: To improve our writing through films.
SC: I will include a setting, characters, a problem, a resolution and sequence of events within my story.

Once upon a time there lived a very old man called Mr wonka. He loved  flying his huge sail boat amongst the clouds.  The sun was starting to set and it was getting late.

All of a sudden there was a crack. Mr.Wonka’s  engine fractured apart splitting away from the stern of his sailboat. He wasn’t surprised by that.  The engine needed to be replaced ages ago.  It was then that Mr wonka realised that he was stranded.

There was a big  thump!  When Mr. Wonka looked under his sailboat he noticed that there was a huge bale of green flying turtles around him. “Holy moly” screamed Mr. Wonka.  Bang, Bang, Bang.

“Help! Help!” The turtles were attacking his sailboat.  They were flying around and coming at him fast.  Mr. Wonka’s sailboat was going to collapse at any minute.  He needed to find a way off his sailboat fast and quick.  Holding his breath he jumped overboard onto a turtle.

Thump!  Mr. Wonka landed hard on the turtle. “Ooh that hurt a lot!” Looking around he took in the view.  It was beautiful and breathtaking.  Sadly though, he saw his sailboat fall to the ground.  I don’t think the turtles liked sharing the sky with Mr.Wonka and his sailboat.

To Be Continued….

Geometric Art

Kia Ora Koutou,
Would you believe that i'm working with a group of students that are doing the flipped classroom. One of our assignments given to us was to describe one of these pictures. We had to use at least:
  • 10 Adjectives
  • 2 similes
  • 3 prepositions

Here is my description:

My chosen image looks like a board game with colorful colors within it. A puzzle board with colours that are light and dark.  It’s amazing to think that these colours are similar to the Tautoro pou outside the library.  It also reminds me of the mosaic art that are at the Kawakawa toilets.

It’s incredible to think that it also looks like the rubik’s cube.  A few shapes are as bright as daffodils. Some are as white as the clouds. Some are like pitch darkness or dark coal.  On top of that sits the sapphire sea.  It’s crazy to believe that one colour looks like the blood pumping through my veins.

Do you know what image I am trying to describe?  I hope so because I don’t know how else to explain it.

So comment below if you think you know which picture I was describing.
Until next time..... Ka Kite!

The Flipped Classroom

Hi everyone,
Let me tell you about my learning at Tautoro school. I'm part of a group that is learning about the flipped classroom.

One thing I have learnt is that you need to be very organised.  We have to complete all tasks and hand them in on time.  I've already been late on one task but I've handed it in which made Whaea Gaylene laugh.

Right now we're working on our writing toolkit. Our learning intention is to create
a toolkit of ideas that I can use to get to the next level.
I'm loving learning so far.
Until next time.
