Drink water or else...

At Tautoro School we are doing the Water Challenge. The challenge is to switch our sugary drinks to water for 30 days! Why would anyone want to drink water for 30 days? Well, I am going to explain why sugary drinks are harmful to our health.


One reason why sugary and diet drinks are so dangerous is there are the hidden dangers of acid that are in sugary drinks. By drinking sugary drinks it can cause tooth decay. How does the acid in drinks cause tooth decay? Well, we know for a fact that sugary drinks are acidic but the manufacturers don’t put how much acid are in the drink. And also it can cause an erosion (which means that the acid can pretty much destroy your teeth) by just drinking a sugary drink a day and by the time your older you will have rotted,decayed and destroyed teeth  And drinking sugary drinks will be one of the biggest mistake of your life ; also there is this scale called the pH scale. Now the pH scale is used for seeing how much acid are in sugary drinks. It will be really useful to use if you want to know how much acid is in a particular drink.


Secondly, sugary & diet drinks can or may lead you to become overweight or in other words obese. How? Well by drinking a sugary drink(such as coke or sprite) a day can cause you to gain 6.5kgs in a year. Plus, by drinking a sugary drink a day can also put you at greater risk of things such as: heart disease, kidney disease,type 2 diabetes, stroke and some cancers. It can also lead to an early death.


Lastly why sugary drinks are harmful to our health is that they are high in calories. But water doesn't have any calories in it ; water is neutral. And sugary drinks aren't natural. For a fact, the amount of calories a kid should have per day is 1,600 to 2,200. So the more sugary drinks you drink the more calories you will absorb.
In summary sugary drinks are bad for our health because: there are hidden dangers of acid in drinks, it can cause you to become overweight/obese and they are high in calories. I have explained pretty much everything about why sugary drinks are harmful to our health.
