Bok Choy by Paul Mason
The book that i’ve been reading is Bok Choy. This is set in Otago in the South Island in NZ 1865 on the gold mines. This is a nonfiction story but based on actual events is about Jacob that is young boy and also there is chinese man who is Ah Sum, he is a poor chinese man that is working in mine called New Gold Mountain.
After Jacob gets rescued his mother comes to get him. Then there is Mrs Bishop and her son Williams. Mrs Bishop and her son Williams is racist to that a chinese man Ah Sum.
My favourite part in this story is when Jacob gets rescued by Ah Sum. Something that surprised me was when Mrs Bishop and her son was being racist to that Chinese man.
What books have you been reading?
Hi Ricci, Thanks for reading my story and for taking the time to review it. I'm glad Bok Choy made a connection with you. I wrote it after I visited the Chinese settlement in Arrowtown, South Island and saw the stone houses built by the Chinese miners. Keep on reading! Kind Regards, Paul Mason
